The brake shoes act upon the brake drums to slow the vehicle down when the brakes are applied. The brake actuators in the drum brake assembly push the brake shoes into the brake drum. The drag caused by these components allows the vehicle to slow down or come to a complete stop.

The drag caused by these components allows the vehicle to slow down or come to a complete stop.
