The brake discs, along with the brake calipers and brake pads, help to slow the vehicle down when needed. The brake pads are clamped against the brake disc when the brakes are applied. The friction caused by the pads and disc decrease the speed at which the wheels are moving and can also bring the vehicle to a complete stop.
